Anti-coal activist Ben Pennings agrees to court orders stopping him from engaging in ‘confidential information’ campaigns against Bravus Mining and Re

Bravus is pleased to announce that its long-running legal dispute with anti-fossil fuel campaigner Ben Pennings has concluded after Mr Pennings agreed to court orders requiring him not to engage in any further campaign to gain access to our confidential business information.

Mr Pennings will permanently cease attempting to induce the businesses’ employees, contractors and potential contractors from unlawfully sharing confidential information about the business with him.

Bravus Mining and Resources Chief Operating Officer Mick Crowe said the business was pleased that Mr Pennings had agreed to provide permanent undertakings to the Supreme Court of Queensland not to try to gain access to our confidential business information.

“We started this legal action in the Supreme Court to stop Mr Pennings from harassing and intimidating our employees and contractors,” he said.

“This damages claim was never about the money.  All we wanted was for Mr Pennings to stop trying to get our confidential information and using it to harass and intimidate our contractors and suppliers to pressure them to stop working with us.”

“Over the years a number of high-profile businesses walked away from us because of his campaign.”

“Some of those who stayed with us had to spend money on security to protect themselves from protests, lock-ons and office invasions.”

“Mr Pennings was himself arrested at one of these protests at Pinkenba when he was attempting to stop a concrete pumping company from working on our mine and rail project.”

The settlement comes after Mr Pennings failed in his bid to have the Supreme Court exempt him from submitting evidence in the lead up to a trial for fear he would incriminate himself.

Bravus has agreed not to pursue Mr Pennings for its legal costs.

Mr Pennings is a former Greens campaigner and Brisbane mayoral candidate. He has played a key role in the anti-fossil fuel movement as a key organiser of Galilee Blockade, in the Stop Adani movement, and in anti-gas group Generation Alpha.

Both the Carmichael mine and the Carmichael Rail Network were built and have been operating and employing thousands of Queenslanders for more than three years.
